Doubtless Bay Fishing Report

Chris Low, skipper and owner of
Pisces Charters....

Every Few weeks I will write The Doubtless Bay Fishing Report giving you up to date information on the fishing action, weather conditions and water temps in the Doubtless Bay area.
This report is based on my own personal experience and opinions.

Fishing Report: 2nd April 2012

Water Temp in the Bay : 19.5 oC

Fishing :
Well the past month has seen some of the best King fishing in ages, and in very close.
Some windier days made me stay almost in the harbour and try the livebaits resulting catches up to 23kg and averaging around the 15kg mark, fantastic fun on the lighter gear.
The season seems to be lasting longer than the recent years with good temperatures keeping the big fish in close.
The snapper have also been found in areas between 10-16m averaging around the very nice 2kg eating size, with some up to the 5kg mark.

Also the equally tasty Red Gurnards have been adding to the salt ice in the chilly bin.

I will start to look for the Terekihi over the next few months along with the snapper, and venture to a few deeper reefs for those big Kings. Cheers
